Me and Frankie Avalon Milano - Columbia, SC
Analogico sincero, digitale bugiardo: per evitare la caduta verticale della credibilità di tutti il sistema qualcuno deve aver pensato che è necessario e urgente convincere i lettori che la nuova barbarie può essere ancora arrestata sulla linea del Piave.

His Home.

Così, quando il tuo daimon si stabilizzerà, tu saprai che persona sei”.
“Ma, e se il tuo daimon si stabilizza in una forma che non ti piace?”
“Be’, diventi uno scontento, non ti pare? […] E fino a quando non imparano ad essere soddisfatti di quello che sono, sono destinati a rimanere degli irrequieti. Un vero spreco di energie”.

TONI THORIMBERT

aurora’s special guest for interview n.100

Where are you from? Where do you live?

I was born in Switzerland but I live in Italy since I was a kid.

How old are you?

55.

How do you pay your bills? Are you working as a professional photographer?

Yes, I am a professional photographer.

What cameras do you use?

I’ve used them all: 35mm, the Pentax 645, a 10X12 large format camera that I’ve loved very much, to the Polaroid Image. Now I’m using digital Canon and Hasselblad, analog Nikon and Rolleiflex. Frequently, I use non autofocus lenses on digital camera bodies.

Any photographer or artist inspiring you?

When I was a young photographer, I was inspired by great masters: William Klein, Robert Frank, Ugo Mulas, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Lee Friedlander, to mention a few.

Today I get inspiration from my own thoughts.

What/who do you enjoy to shoot the most?

People, especially women.

Even if I’m understanding that is photography itself the real subject of my work: its ambiguity, its ability to transform the meaning of things, of everything, and make them symbolic.

Do you believe in god?

In my own way.

What do you drink on a night out?

Several gin tonic.

Do you like dancing?

Yes, I do.

What’s your favorite first name?

My daughters’ names: Diana and Gia.

Are you a fashion addicted?

I love to shoot la mode; personally I would call myself a “style-addicted”.

What’s your favorite tv series?

I only watch motor bike’s racing on tv.

Recommend us a book.

Italo Calvino’s bibliography, and “Mémoires d’Hadrien” by Marguerite Yourcenar.

What’s the country of your dreams?

A better Italy.

Have you ever been to Iceland?

No.

What song would you choose for a slideshow of your work?

I’m working on adding experimental contemporary soundtracks to some of my audio-visuals. Authors like Fennesz, Oliver Doerell, Trapist, Matmos.

Ask yourself a question. Tell me your answer (like Marzullo does)

Q: Why you are so good?

A: I really don’t know, I’m always be like that.

The result is a uniquely Siberian state of being, which requires a specific word in the Russian language to simultaneously indicate melancholy, anguish, boredom, nostalgia and sickness.
